Sein's Brother 「ザインの
Personality[]
Sein's brother is a calm and kind[2] individual. The only time he became angry and raised his hand against someone was when Sein refused to become an adventurer, not for his own sake, but for his brother's. He believes in the honor of living in poverty, which is reflected in the rural church he oversees, where items like hand-sized bathtubs and scythes are used.[3]
Appearance[]
Sein's brother has medium-length, brown hair parted in the center and styled with soft waves. He wears black shoes, round glasses, and a long, dark robe with gold trimming along the edges, topped with a long white shawl. His outfit is cinched with a sash-like belt around the waist. He also wears a holy symbol pendant around his neck, awarded only by the Holy Capital to the most distinguished priests in a region.[4]
Synopsis[]
History[]
The parents of Sein and Sein's brother passed away when they were young. Since then, Sein's brother raised his younger brother Sein by himself.
At some point Bishop Heiter visited the village from the Holy City, and offered Sein's brother a position as a priest in the Strahl due to his outstanding abilities. Sein's brother, however, declined, choosing to stay and care for Sein, believing it was his responsibility as the older sibling not to take away his brother's home.
Travels to Äußerst Arc[]
Around twenty-nine years after the death of Himmel the Hero, Sein's brother sends Sein to gather wild herbs for their village's harvest festival. When Sein gets stuck in a swamp, he is rescued by Frieren and meets her party. Upon his return, Sein tells his brother about the adventurers.
Later, when Stark is bitten by a venomous snake, Frieren's party heads to the village for treatment. Sein's brother examines Stark and concludes that it is too late to save him — his brain will melt within hours. He mentions that the venom is only treatable if caught early but suggests that his brother, Sein, might be able to help.
At that moment, Sein enters the room, and his brother asks him to tend to Stark. Recognizing the adventurers, Sein quickly cures Stark of the poison. After Sein leaves, Sein's brother asks Frieren to take Sein away from the village so he can follow his childhood dream of becoming an adventurer. Frieren, Fern, and Stark spend several days trying to convince Sein to join their party. Eventually, they return to Sein's brother to ask for insights into what Sein might like. Soon after, Sein enters the room where his brother is speaking with Frieren and her party, but he quickly heads outside upon seeing them.
Outside the church, Sein's brother watches as Sein discloses to him and Frieren about his best friend, who left for an adventure with a promise to return in three years. It has now been ten years, and Sein believes his friend is likely dead. Frieren challenges Sein, warning him that he will regret not attempting to find his friend. Sein hesitates, explaining that his true reason for staying is to avoid leaving his brother alone in the village.
Sein's brother, unaware of the depth of Sein's feelings, reacts with frustration. He slaps Sein, exclaiming that he has never once regretted his decision to remain in the village and that Sein should not compare his situation to his own. Sein acknowledges his misplaced sense of obligation and, with his brother's blessing, decides to join Frieren's party to search for his lost friend.
Shortly thereafter, Sein apologizes to his brother and acknowledges the misunderstanding. With his brother's blessing, Sein decides to join Frieren's party in his search for his lost friend. Later, Sein's brother is seen smiling as part of a crowd that waves goodbye and wishes Sein and Frieren's party good luck as they depart from the village.
Relationships[]
Sein[]
Sein's brother took on the responsibility of raising Sein after they lost their parents at a very young age. When Bishop Heiter visited from the Holy City and offered Sein's brother a prestigious position in Strahl, he declined the offer to avoid uprooting Sein from their hometown. This sacrifice deeply influenced Sein's decision to refuse Gorilla's offer to become an adventurer.
Years later, when Frieren's party invited Sein to join them, Sein expressed these same feelings to them and his brother. In response, Sein's brother, frustrated by his sense of obligation, confronted Sein with a rare display of anger. He asserted that he had never regretted his decision to stay in the village and questioned how long Sein would continue to regret his own choices. Although the outburst was uncharacteristic, Sein recognized it as a sign of his brother's deep concern for him. This confrontation, coupled with his brother's eventual encouragement, led Sein to join Frieren's party and embark on his own journey to find Gorilla.
