Summary[]
Shortly after the defeat of the Demon King, Glück and Macht discuss the work the demon needs to do for him on the front stage, which is gaining the goodwill of the nobles of Weise. Glück also explains to him how he intends to teach Macht about "justice" and "evil" in exchange for using his power for his ends. Under this contract, Macht is introduced to the citizens of Weise officially as the Mage of the Glück family. In the following years, he socializes with the nobility of Weise and manages to integrate into the city. The nobles still intend to test his loyalty by asking him to defeat a remnant of the Demon King Army headed towards the Fortress City of Weise. Having no sense of loyalty, Macht effortlessly dispatches the demons, gaining the trust of the nobility and citizens of Weise.
When Macht volunteers to become an instructor of magic, Glück was at first skeptical but decides to accede to the demon's request. He introduces Macht to a child of his relative, Denken, whose parents were killed by demons, and commands Macht to teach him magic. Macht obliges, introducing himself to Denken afterwards as the magic instructor of the Gluck family. Despite expressing his distrust of the demon, Denken agrees to become his apprentice.
Plot Details[]
On a balcony overlooking the city of Weise, Macht asks Glück about the work he is to do on the front stage as he is preparing tea. Gluck begins by mentioning the Demon King's defeat at the hands of the Hero Himmel, to which Macht says he is aware. Gluck takes note of his nonchalance and asks what Macht feels about his King being defeated. Macht tells him he has no feelings in particular as he pours tea into the cup.
Glück then states his intention to introduce the demon officially to the city of Weise as a personal mage of the Glück family as testament to the new peaceful era, as Macht serves him tea. When Macht asks the reason, Glück pivots to ask the demon if their race often enjoys tea. Macht tells him he is only copying the behaviors of others. Glück then asks about his choice of tea leaves, to which Macht replies that he had heard one of the servants mention that Gluck's deceased wife used to like this type of tea. Gluck notes that Macht is unnaturally skilled at social interaction between humans and concludes that it is a trait inherent to demons. They are naturally inclined to deceive humans and gain their trust, even when they do not consciously intend to do so. Macht understands that Gluck intends to use this particular trait to deal with the nobles publicly as well, by using the demon to gain the alliance of the other nobles in the city.
Glück says that it is a good thing to have many allies and murder should only be the last resort. After drinking his tea, he changes the topic, telling Macht that they are having an "evil" conversation. Macht replies saying that he does not understand the concept of "evil," and he can only understand that Glück is having fun. Glück replies that Macht seems to be having fun as well and tells Macht that the latter is a monster who does not understand what is "just" and what is "evil." Therefore, Glück would be the one to teach him what is "just" and what is "evil". The demon would act according to these instructions and one day would eventually understand these concepts himself. Macht asks Gluck what would happen if he still fails to understand after that. After some contemplation, Glück says that in return for using Macht's power, he will be by Macht's side until the demon manages to understand, even if it means following him to the bottom of hell. Macht then asks Glück if he already has a plan to eliminate him after gaining control of Weise. Glück asks him his thoughts, to which Macht replies he was looking forward to it.
Macht is then officially introduced to the citizens of Weise. He begins to socialize with the nobles, such as by accompanying them in their studies, playing chess, attending balls, riding horses, and serving them tea whenever they come to visit Glück. Over the years, he had manages to gain recognition and the appreciation of the nobles, even though they are still hesitant in trusting him.
One day, the nobles of Weise summon Macht to a meeting and one of Weise's council members ask him the reason he has chosen to live among humans in Weise. Macht gives them a seemingly idealistic reason, stating that he believes conversation and living together are the first steps towards coexistence between demons and humankind. The nobles praise his response and wished that all demons were as friendly as him. They tell Macht that they want to trust him and ask the demon if he is willing to fight in order to protect Weise. At this timing, Glück appears at the door, prompting Macht to leave the meeting to join him.
As Glück mention they were in a troublesome situation, Macht concurs, saying that "enemies" have entered the range of his mana detection. Glück is amused at the word he uses and explains that remnant forces of the Demon King's Army are heading towards the Fortress City of Weise. He asks Macht what the nobles wanted with him. When Macht answers that they were testing his loyalty, Glück laughs at the foolishness of such an idea, stating that Macht could not possibly have any loyalty, to which Macht only smiles in response. Glück then orders Macht to destroy all of Weise's "enemies," saying that it should be easy for Macht to kill his own kind, as the demon does not possess any loyalty.
Macht goes on to carry out Glück's order and singlehandedly destroys the remnant forces of the Demon King's Army heading towards Weise. As he beholds the fading remnants of his fellow demons, he recognizes one of them as Demon General Schräg, the thunderbolt. Macht says he had thought Schräg to be wiser, implying that before their battle, Macht has tried some kind of "negotiation" to make the demons leave. He muses that the demon forces have become pathetic after losing the ultimate figurehead in the Demon King, who had the absolute power to unite and direct them. He then returns to the Fortress City of Weise under the citizens' applause and adulation.
Later on, Gluck mentions that Macht once volunteered to be a magic instructor and asks if the demon knows human magic, unlike other demons. Macht replies saying he had learned them from a demon named Solitär before coming to Weise, as the latter also researches human magic. Gluck then asks if Macht knows how to use Zoltraak, the current dominant magic of battle. In response, Macht claims that Zoltraak was a great demon magic an old friend of his invented and boasts that he is better at it than any humans. Taking note of the demon's words, Gluck agrees to his request and offers a proposal.
Gluck brings Macht to a church where Denken, a child of his relatives who died to demons, is praying and explains that the child used to be close to Gluck's daughter and always wanted to be a mage. The lord orders Macht to teach him magic as a means to distract the boy from the death of his parents. Macht confirms whether it was an order and obeys, dutifully waiting outside the church for Denken. When the boy is about to leave, Macht greets him, introducing himself as the magic instructor of the Glück family. Denken answers that he is aware of Macht's existence, as he is the one who defeated the demons who came to assault Weise. However, the boy refuses to trust Macht as his parents were killed by demons. Macht does not seem deterred by this, saying that there is even more value to teaching Denken magic because of this. Denken asks if Macht is strong, to which Macht confirms, claiming he is the most powerful among the Seven Sages of Destruction. Denken then asks if he will be able to become strong enough to kill Macht himself. Macht responds with a smile that such a thing does not depend on him.
