Silver Coins 「
Summary[]
The Shadow Warriors gather and discuss the mission that Löwe has assigned them, and Clematis assigns everyone roles in the mission. The Shadow Warriors discuss their opponents and the probability of the assassination succeeding. Schritt reveals that Löwe is rumored to have previously killed a Great Mage, Minus, making it possible for him to visualize the death of the Great Mage Serie. After, the warriors split up in pairs at Wolf's insistence. Iris and Routine take a secret underground passageway into the castle and discuss their mission, but they are overheard by Falsch. Gazelle is seen having a drink at Wolf's bar, where he repays his tab using the silver coins Frieren previously paid him with. He comments that he wanted to pay Wolf back before he died. Meanwhile, while Frieren's Party head back to Gazelle's stall, Frieren tells Fern and Stark that she recognized Gazelle as a warrior, alongside the previous hero, Rasen, who is now masquerading as the vagabond Wehrlos. She reveals that she planned all along to track Gazelle by putting mana on the silver coins she paid him with, though Fern and Stark point out that Frieren was actually upset about being scammed.
Plot Details[]
Clematis gives his companions a list detailing the Shadow Warriors's targets for their mission, which include Serie's bodyguards, and he explains that their role is to distract and eliminate these bodyguards. Routine remarks that Frieren and Sense are particularly formidable enemies among them. Wehrlos recognizes Frieren as a target he had on a former mission, which was later terminated after a dispute between the Shadow Warriors and the former Emperor.

Routine recognizes Frieren and Sense on the list.
Gazelle also recognizes Frieren, alongside Stark, as his previous customers during the festival, and he expresses relief that he received the list after this encounter, otherwise he would have been executed for not taking them on. Iris hears his remark and asks if Frieren and Stark looked strong, to which Gazelle responds that he would not be here had he faced them. He also adds that Stark is a troublesome warrior, and he would need the aid of Iris or Wolf to fight him.

Gazelle and Schritt discuss Minus's emblem.
Schritt asks if this means Gazelle could fairly fight Stark with Iris or Wolf's help, but Gazelle reminds her that their main problem is Serie. He asks if Löwe is truly capable of taking down Serie, as he would rather not die in vain to get him to that point. In response, Schritt tosses something to Gazelle, which he identifies as a Holy Symbol. Schritt explains that she borrowed the emblem from Löwe, and it made her believe he was capable of assassinating Serie. Gazelle identifies the owner of the Holy Symbol as the Great Mage Minus, who Schritt alleges was killed by a nameless warrior implied to be Löwe. However, Gazelle voices his uncertainty, as rumors claimed the match ended in a draw and Löwe was not guaranteed to be the warrior. Schritt responds that regardless, the fact is that one of the three Great Mages is gone, and Löwe does not view the Great Mages as immortal.

Iris sets off Wolf's poisoned arrow trap.
After the meeting, Iris and Routine are assigned by Wolf to patrol an underground passage that was formerly used as an escape route during the Unified Empire Era. As they patrol, Iris sets off a trap, firing a barrage of poisoned arrows, and Routine explains that Wolf had set up traps within the route. Iris, who had caught one of the arrows in her mouth, spits it out and tells Routine she could have mentioned that earlier. Routine checks on Iris as the arrows were coated with lethal poison, but Iris nonchalantly mentions that poison is not effective on her and at most, she will get a stomachache. Routine mentions Wehrlos, who is able to conquer poison through sheer willpower, but Iris tells her not to compare her to a freak like him and that there is training to overcome poison. The pair continue patrolling, and Iris senses something but brushes it off. Meanwhile, Falsch eavesdrops on them behind a pillar.

Falsch eavesdrops on Iris and Routine.
At a bar manned by Wolf, Gazelle pays off his tab with the money he received from Frieren. Wolf is surprised that Gazelle is paying his tab for once and says that Schritt should follow his example. Gazelle tells him that he wanted to pay him back for he dies, and Wolf tells him not to say that.

Frieren identifies Wehrlos as Rasen.
Frieren, Fern, and Stark look for Gazelle to return the vase, but he is no longer at his vendor spot. Frieren reveals she put a tracking spell on the coins after noticing he was a warrior and potentially a member of the Shadow Warriors. She also mentioned seeing him talking with a dwarf she refers to as Rasen, the Hero of the Far North, who is now mostly forgotten and goes by "Wehrlos," and she wonders why he adopted a fake name. Frieren supposes these circumstances are not a coincidence, and Gazelle may lead them to his superior. Stark asks about the possibility of Gazelle already spending the coins, but Frieren tells him the coins are silver and such a large amount cannot be spent so quickly. Fern and Stark decide to trust Frieren's judgement, and Frieren subsequently mourns the loss of her secret savings.

- ↑ Though the official English localization states that Rasen is the Hero of the Far North, the location name in Japanese, "北の果て," is the same as the Northern Frontier that Wirbel mentions he is returning to in Chapter 62.
